When it comes to security, windows and doors are the weak points. Quality products from Weru not only provide comfort and appealing design; they also offer a high degree of security against break-in attempts. Various burglary protection elements make life hard for burglars. The options you choose for your windows and doors depend on the installation location and your own personal security needs. We offer you tailor-made burglary protection so you feel safe in your home at all times!

Burglary protection for the house – is it really necessary?

The importance of good burglary protection in your home is still frequently underestimated. This is often due to the following misconceptions:

  • I don’t have anything worth stealing!
Unfortunately, burglars don’t know that. They assume there is something valuable in every house and if not, they can still destroy cherished memorabilia.
  • If they want to break in, they’ll find a way to do it!
Burglars only choose properties that allow quick and easy entry into the house. If it’s too hard to break in, the thief will look for an easier property.
  • No one breaks in during the day!
That too is not true: When opportunity knocks, thieves answer. Burglars sometimes also act spontaneously and try to get into the house through tilted windows or unlocked doors.

How much burglary protection do I need?

Windows and doors on the ground floor are particularly prone to break-in; 70% of all break-ins occur through them. These components should have a high security level. Basic protection is sufficient for difficult-to-access upper floors — as long as they cannot be accessed via trellises, masonry walls or downpipes.

To provide the perfect burglary protection for every floor, Weru offer a multistage hardware range for security classes RC1 to RC3. The windows can be individually equipped and still all have the same appearance. We would be happy to advise you on the optimal security elements for your windows and doors.

What do the security classes in DIN EN 1627 mean?

DIN EN 1627 ‘Doors, windows, curtain walling, grilles and shutters – burglary deterrence – requirements and classification’ defines the requirements for burglary protection of exterior components. The standardised security classes (RCs) describe the minimum amount of time that a window or door has to be able to withstand attack with a predefined set of tools.

The most commonly used RC classes for windows and doors are:

What are the options for increasing the burglary protection of windows and doors?

Stable profiles, burglar-resistant hardware, lockable handles and special safety glass are elements that provide enhanced burglary protection for windows.

Security reinforced steel fittings

Multiple locks bolted into special steel reinforcement elements maximise the window’s resistance to being pried out and ensures additional loading capability and stability of frame and window as load-bearing components are genaerally screwed into the steel.

Toughened safety glass (TSG)

The ‘prestressed’ glass is tougher than conventional insulating glass. Already at a thickness of 8 mm the pane is ‘ball-proof’. However, if the pane is acutually destroyed, it breaks into blunt-edged fragments. Toughened safety glass thus provides dual protection: against forceful impacts and against injuries.

Laminated safety glass (LSG)

The glass panes are bonded to an extremely tough, tear-resistant plastic film that not only ensures the glass is very unlikely to break. Even if the pane were to break the fragments would adhere firmly to the film. And even then it would take a lot of time, effort and tools to penetrate the pane. A higher security class can be achieved by increasing the number of plastic films and glass panes.

Weru secur surveillance system

Our Weru secur surveillance system is a so-called standalone solution for any individual window. The surveillance system monitors the position of the window sash and window handle. If the sash is closed and the handle is pointing downwards the integrated alarm system is automatically armed. If in this state an attempt is made to lever open the window from outside the system responds immediately by triggering an audible alarm.

  • No manual arming of the surveillance unit
  • It is impossible to forget to activate or deactivate the alarm
  • No key or combination of numbers required
  • No false alarms due to incorrect operation

Glass break alarm

Issues an alarm by emitting a loud acoustic signal when the pane is broken and hence startles before break-in attempts. False alarms are prevented by a dual sensor mechanism (vibration and frequency).

Is government funding available for burglary protection?

For new building or renovation of residential buildings, burglar-resistant windows and doors should be chosen right from the start. Since the end of 2015 the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) has been offering attractive grants under programme number 455. Condition for receiving funding: A specialist dealer must perform the installation; execution may only commence after approval.

Important information!

  • 70% of break-ins occur on windows and patio doors on the ground floor; burglary protection is particularly important here.
  • Professional installation is required for burglar-resistant windows and doors to fulfil their purpose.

Consider this:

A break-in not only causes material damage, but also results in an uncertainty that can have a considerable effect on your daily life. That’s why you should invest in effective burglary protection right from the start!
